May is state testing month! How can we ensure our students are relaxed and ready? Mr. Seagreaves and Mrs. Siwinski classes wrote letters to Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Didier’s 3rd graders, who have been their reading buddies all year. The letters included state test tips and advice for the 3rd graders first-time taking the state test next week. To all DPSD students - you've got this!

This week at Deer Park Arcadia Elementary, Mrs. Jones, a retired art teacher and volunteer, visited Mrs. Durgin's class to share a lesson on René Magritte. His iconic works, The False Mirror (1928) and The Son of Man (1964), explore the intriguing contrast between what is visible and what may be concealed. Enjoy our class’s creative interpretations inspired by these surrealist masterpieces!

Students who qualify for Free or Reduced school meals at Deer Park Elementary, Arcadia Elementary, Deer Park Middle School, and Deer Park High School are eligible to receive $120 for summer groceries.

To qualify for Summer EBT, families must complete the Free and Reduced Price Meals application.

Arcadia students came together to showcase their Tinker Crates! Using hands-on STEM kits, each student built and explored a unique project, then proudly shared their learning with their peers. With fourth-grade teachers joining in and a pizza celebration to wrap it up, the event was both fun and meaningful. Experiences like these help students grow as confident, independent learners and collaborative members of their community.

How do we ensure ALL DPSD students are ready and successful for college, career, and life? 🎓Educators, leaders, community members, and even a recent graduate came together to answer that exact question.

Using community feedback, research, and our district’s strategic priorities, this team worked collaboratively to define the skills and characteristics our students need to be ready for their future.

We want all DPSD students to be:
- Confident, independent, and self-reliant
- Critical thinkers & problem solvers
- Personally and socially accountable
- Effective communicators
- Flexible and adaptable
- Contributing members to society and the community

We’re grateful for the voices, perspectives, and passion that made this work possible. This is how strong communities build strong future-ready students in Deer Park. 💙

It was a fun-filled and delicious evening last Thursday for Deer Park 3rd and 4th-graders!
For the Future Chefs cook-off, Arcadia received 40 great recipe submissions. This year’s theme, “Choose a favorite recipe from a country or culture,” inspired creativity and variety, with 6 finalists selected to participate.
A special thank you to our High School volunteers, our kitchen staff, and judges for making this event possible. We also appreciate the teachers, administration, and parents who came to cheer the contestants on!
Congratulations to all of our Future Chefs!

Exciting learning is happening in Ms. Conroy’s 4th-grade classroom! Students are building an understanding of benchmarks and equivalent fractions as they work to accurately place fractions on a number line. Through engaging, hands-on activities like these, students are strengthening collaboration skills while applying their knowledge and deepening their understanding.

Our third graders at Arcadia Elementary recently enjoyed an engaging field trip to the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture and the Campbell House.
At the MAC, students explored the interactive exhibit “Brick by Brick: We Built This City,” where seven of Spokane’s iconic landmarks were brought to life using LEGO bricks. Each model was thoughtfully paired with historical insights from the Joel E. Ferris Archives along with real-life photographs, helping students make meaningful connections between the past and present. Through this experience, students gained a deeper understanding of how architecture has shaped our local community.
The learning continued with a tour of the historic Campbell House, where students stepped back in time to explore daily life in the early 1900s. This immersive experience offered a glimpse into what a household looked like around 1910, bringing history to life in a memorable and meaningful way.

Good news this week from the Arcadia included some fun projects for both the fourth- and fifth-grade students.
Fifth-grade STEAM students participated in a Shark Tank-style presentation. Each student was to pitch their idea to the class, clearly explaining the problem their product solves, how it works, and why consumers would want to buy it.
Meanwhile, Fourth-grade students stepped into roles as archaeologists for their Archaeologist Diorama project. Each student recreated what they believed a certain area of the world may have looked like in the past.
The students' innovation, confidence, and persuasive skills were on full display. What a fun and hands-on way to learn!
