Welcome

At their meeting on November 28th, Deer Park School District’s Board of directors selected Craig Phillips from a strong pool of candidates to fill the vacant board seat in Director District 1. The seat was vacated when Greg Schuler (a Deer Park graduate and local business owner) made the difficult decision to step down from the board after seven successful years of leadership and dedication to kids.

According to the stipulations of Board Policy 1114, Craig Phillips was appointed to serve out the balance of Greg Schuler’s term, which was scheduled to end in 2023.

Craig is a graduate of Deer Park High School and has children attending school in Deer Park. In his recent interview with the Board of Directors, Craig communicated an understanding of the role a school board plays in shaping a vision for learning and growth in a school district. He also shared a desire to join the board in providing leadership and guidance around challenges related to growth in Deer Park, seeking opportunities to advocate for our schools at both the state and federal level, and finally, partnering with parents and community members to ensure our schools are meeting the needs of all our students and families.

Craig will be sworn-in at the Board of Directors’ first meeting of 2023, January 9th, at 6:00 pm. January is Board Appreciation month and we’re both thankful and grateful for our current board members and individuals like Craig, who step into these important positions, offering their perspective, wisdom, and expertise to help our schools provide amazing and inspiring educational experiences.
